2020 Season

There has never been an NFL season quite like 2020. The pandemic shut down the offseason, eliminated the traditional preseason, emptied stadiums and forced teams to deal with constantly changing schedules and COVID outbreaks. And somehow, the NFL played the entire season.

Then Tom Brady did something that somehow felt almost inevitable: He left New England, went to Tampa Bay, brought Rob Gronkowski, teamed up with Antonio Brown - and at age 43, Brady won another Super Bowl — in Tampa Bay's own stadium. Meanwhile, Derrick Henry ran for 2,027 yards, Justin Jefferson exploded as a rookie, James Robinson became one of fantasy's great waiver-wire surprises, and Josh Allen emerged as a genuine superstar.

In our league, the 2020 season belonged to Owen and The Sillinannies. Owen finished 9–4 and captured the championship, while Harley's Davante's Inferno dominated the regular season at 11–2 and finished second.

Jack and his 'HelAIRe Jordans' provided the year's most hilarious sub-plot, making a staggering 68 roster moves. Jack was essentially treating the waiver wire like a scratch-off lottery ticket, churning through his bench with such frequency that most players were only on his team for the length of a commercial break. It earned him 4th place, but the legend of his transaction log lives on.

But the strangest team statistically was Alex's Chark on Deez Nutz. Alex went only 6–7 despite scoring 1,853.64 points, the highest total in the league. Unfortunately, he also allowed 1,841.14, meaning he was simultaneously the league's highest-scoring team and the team that opponents scored against most.

Fantasy football had found the perfect metaphor for 2020: Even when you did everything right, everything could still go wrong. The season also produced an extraordinary Week 7 shootout between Owen and Harley: 360.08 combined points, with Owen winning 182.40–177.68. And while Owen was collecting the trophy, Spencer was busy delivering the year's most devastating victory, crushing Jack Somers 194.50–89.26 in the Week 16 Third Place game.

The NFL had survived the strangest season in modern history, and so had Blood Sweat and Beers.
